GeoSafe Project
The aim of the GeoSafe programme is to undertake fundamental research that will advance our understanding related to hosting a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) for radioactive waste within lower strength sedimentary rock formations.
This research encompasses three challenge areas: Geological isolation, Contaminant pathways, and Mathematical modelling.
The project consists of a partnership between seven UK research organisations:
- National Nuclear Laboratory
- Imperial College London
- University of Manchester
- University of Liverpool
- University of Leeds
- Heriot-Watt University
- British Geological Survey
